still celebrating...

Whew. That was a busy couple of weeks with Christmas and New Year followed hot on the heels, in our household, by a birthday. Eleven years old today - which also marks eleven years of motherhood for me.

She's tall and pretty and growing taller every day - I have to remind myself, I'm the mother of a big kid now! She's smart and funny. She loves books and music, watching movies, playing solitaire, sitting in the front seat of the car. She loves her dog and her cats. She loves her sister (well, most of the time). She makes me cups of tea in bed. She rarely makes her bed. She loves dancing and drama. Still the drama queen she ever was.

I can't believe eleven years have passed since she was born, high on a hill in Hong Kong, and yet in many ways it seems but a moment ago. I remember holding her for the first time and looking into her beautiful, scrunched-up little face and thinking "so that's what you look like". I always knew I'd have her, my own sweet baby. I just didn't know how wonderful it would be.
